Randy Orton has been said to have been telling his friends that a ten year WWE contract has been offered to him. As it stands, the contract hasn’t been signed, or there has been no official announcement of such a deal being on the table.
It’s very rare for such a contract to be offered to a superstar, with the wrestling industry not being one of the most stable over a period of time. Usually contracts range from one to three years, with many superstars being released before they expire.
Some superstars are an exception to the rule, with The Big Show and Mark Henry both signing ten year contracts in recent times.
These two signings were quite the contrast, firstly The Big Show – a main event capture from rivals WCW, who had time on his side.
The second, Mark Henry is more confusing however as he often struggled with weight issues and often showed little sign of improvement in the ring – until his recent run with Tony Atlas at his side on the ECW brand.
A few years ago few would have thought that Randy would have ever been offered a contract of such length. He said to have been under constant scrutiny backstage, with many believing that he simply could not stay out of trouble.
This speculated contract would certainly suggest that any backstage doubts are in the past, and that the creative team see Randy Orton as a vital part of the future of the company.
Of course this wouldn’t mean that he couldn’t be released before the contract expired, but it would underline his commitment to the company, which in turn would more than likely be rewarded with main event pushes and title runs.
