Joey Styles, the former voice of ECW is said to have punched out John “Bradshaw” Layfield during this years tour of Iraq.
According to sources over at PWI, Bradshaw had singled out Styles as the victim of his bullying throughout the trip, with a series of condescending remarks in front of fellow employees and antics such as deliberately spilling drinks over him.
A few days into the tour JBL’s constant tomfoolery led to an altercation between the pair, which would need the assistance of a few wrestlers to hold the men apart.
An allegedly “worse for wear” JBL, who had been drinking had reportedly managed to push aside the wrestlers who were separating him and Styles to launch himself at the former ECW and Raw commentator.
However Joey Styles, who is 5″8 tall and weights a reportedly 165 pounds (compared to JBL who stands at 6″6 and weighs 290 pounds!), would “nail him perfectly” according to an eye witness with a single shot just below the eye which sent the former World Champion to the ground with a bloodied and blackened eye!
There was said to be no further incidents between the two employees and Styles is said to have played down the incident when questioned about it.
The general feeling backstage though is one of happiness that somebody stood up against JBL, who has the reputation of being somewhat of a bully, which was exemplified when ex-Smackdown talent Palmer Cannon quit the company back in 2006.
Bradshaw was also involved in a “shoot fight” during the battle royal at ECW One Night Stand in 2005, when he legitimately attacked The Blue Meanie due to the pair having some “history”, the assualt Brian Heffron lead to him being legitimately injured.
At this week’s episode of Raw JBL was said to have been a very subdued character, as he knew that his scuffle was the talk of the lockeroom.
It is also believed that JBL would feel embarrassed about his behaviour on the tour, as he was very actively involved in setting up!
